I reckon my love of language started at an early age listening to pleasing sounds of Old English Brogue spoken by generations of family, friends, and neighbors along the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Folk there fish at “hoi toide,” not “high tide.” This special dialect and unique phrases always bring me right to those sandy beaches, no matter where in the world I am!

Now, my heart and family tree will always be in the south, but couldn’t help but be intrigued by fun-loving people of other regions and cultures having their own, unique languages! To know a “potcake” for example is not a local dish, but a stray dog, one would have to be familiar with the native dialect of the Bahamas!
